Writing - Adding more skills to the creative toolbox.
Writing for Fstoppers.com
After some motivation provided by some great speakers at NPPA Northern Short Course I have begun working on becoming a better writer, still working on becoming a better photographer too. Several of the guest speakers talked about expanding our skill sets to include writing both for clarity of captions but also as a way to better provide context to our professional and personal photography projects. It’s also just as important to be good at it for proposals, correspondence and business in general.
As part of that process I have become a staff writer at www.fstoppers.com It’s been a great way to get more efficient at writing and express some thoughts around photography. The editors at Fstoppers.com give pretty free rein on photography content and I’m using that freedom to dive into some projects, ideas and subjects that I’ve always been interested in. Both writing and photography are wonderful ways to make deeper connections with people. One of those dives is exploring the wide array of personal projects out there. My hope is to start highlighting personal projects that people are doing, maybe once a month. I’m focusing the start of that on photojournalism, environment and climate change. If you’re a photographer developing a personal project around those areas please let me know by sending a link to an online gallery for me to look at.
Here are a few of the pieces I’ve done so far if you have a chance take a look.
